Covering both fundamemtal principles and the latest developments, many of the topics discussed are novel and state of the art, such as combinatorial library synthesis, mesoporous materials, fullerenes and nanotubules, optical localisation and the experimental observation of fractional electronic charge. Although modern in its approach and content, classical material is also presented, but approached in a modern and applied way. Dr Stephen Elliott read theoretical physics and studied for his PhD at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge. He is currently Reader in Solid State Chemical Physics at the University of Cambridge and Teaching Fellow in Physics and Chemistry at Trinity College, Cambridge.
