Poetics along with Rhetoric constitute Aristotles oeuvre on aesthetics. Much of Western literary thought has its roots in Aristotles Poetics, in which he ex-pounded upon his theories of literature and classified it by genre and components. Starting with the notion that all humans have a natural propensity to-wards literature, a means of mimesis, or imitation, Poetics provides a comprehensive analysis of tragedy.
