It is nineteenth century Bengal and revolutionary ideas are in the air. A movement is afoot to restore to women some of their basic rights, including the right to education. In a small village, our heroine, nine-year old Paromita longs to go to school. But her father disapproves. Paromita is shattered when she learns that her father has arranged her wedding with a man old enough to be her grandfather. That is when she decides to take the reins of her life in her hands.
