This is a really iseertnting question. I often hear aspiring writers say that they won't read anything in their genre while they're working on their own novel because they're afraid they'll inadvertently start writing like the author they're reading. While I think this could happen for a newer author who hasn't yet found their own voice, I find it tremendously inspiring to read really well-written fiction while I'm writing. I can't name just one book or author I turn to, but I do like to read the latest award-winning stuff I thought OLIVE KITTERIDGE by Elizabeth Stout, for example. was really fabulous for its realistic characters. Nothing beats curling up with a good book!
